The Lost Village series is various works I created after visiting the Lost Villages on Jeju Island in South Korea. These villages were named to commemorate the small villages that were destroyed during the Jeju 4.3 (1947-1954). As of 2019, 122 villages are recorded as Lost Villages. Some have been rebuilt, while others remain unoccupied and untouched.
Gonuel Dong is situated by the seaside. What was once a village of roughly seventy households now has only a few cradles on the ground, with walls that hint at what were once homes. We shared food, talked, and laughed while enjoying the view of the quiet seaside, bringing a brief moment of everyday life.
