STORY SEEKERS

Chapter 1: When History Becomes Memory

In this first chapter of the project, each artist highlights significant moments in modern Korean history—Japanese colonization, the Korean War, subsequent U.S. interference in Korean politics, and the military dictatorships from the 1960s to the 1980s—through micro-narratives. We embark on this project with a clear emphasis on the significance of small stories in the context of grand history. While small stories may be fragmented, they reveal the true complexity of our lives that grand history might overlook. When history becomes memory, these memories build histories that belong not to the victors but to those who lived through those times.

The first chapter took shape as a publication (view in PDF) and process-based exhibition at Space Ri Sang-Chun in Daegu, Korea.
