A video collection of stories on a name.

The NAME Project is slow process-based research on an alternative way of understanding histories through stories behind names. Intimate stories about people’s names are woven with their memories to tell lived and personal histories. These histories are individual, yet they resonate with collective moments in history.

Dialogue and conversation are the primary mechanisms for this project to foster a reciprocal relationship between the storyteller and the listener. The stories I have collected in Korea and Canada for this project share narratives of one’s journey from childhood to adulthood/parenthood, from one country to another, and other variants of transition within one’s life.
